The New Role of Local Grants

August 02, 20251 min read

Local foundations are seeing a groundswell of support as services are increasingly defunded at the federal level. Community Development Block Grants as well as the HOME funding from the Housing and Urban Development office are currently under threat, which means it will be up to local communities to fill the void. This is a nightmare for communities that aren't as affluent as others, but it does create an opportunity.

Grantors and donors are reacting, and quickly, to fund and dole out services to fill much needed services. That means that now, more than ever, the search for the right service to the right people is on. There is an enthusiasm and activation in every community now across the country, which means now is the time to apply for these grants - especially if you're in the human and social services field.

Gone are the days where we can rely on federal funding, or at least federal funding in significant amounts. Unless something changes in the next two years, communities are in for budget shortfalls and dire needs that the nonprofit world is perfectly positioned to address. If you're looking to start a nonprofit or apply for new funding, there is no time like the present.
